Our portion size guide gives you a breakdown of what counts as a portion of fruit and veg for this challenge.

Fresh and frozen fruit and veg

1 Portion = 80 grams

Every 80 grams of fresh and frozen fruit and veg  toward the challenge. For example an apple or banana is about 1 portion.

Tinned fruit and veg

1 Portion = 80 grams

Every 80 grams of tinned fruit counts toward the challenge. Tinned fruit in syrup is excluded.

Dried fruit

1 Portion = 30 grams

Every 30 grams of dried fruit counts toward the challenge. This is about a tablespoon of mixed fruit.

Dry pulses and beans

1 Portion = 40 grams

Every uncooked 40 grams of pulses or beans count toward the challenge. This is about 3 tablespoons of dried lentils.

Concentrated puree

1 Portion = 20 grams

Every 20 grams of concentrated puree counts toward the challenge. This is about a heaped teaspoon of tomato puree.

Exclusions

Potatoes, yams, plantain, cassava, baked beans, coconut, garlic, chillies, ginger, fresh and dried herbs, spices, fruit juice, smoothies, dressed salads, and processed products with added sugar or those with several non-vegetable ingredients (e.g., cauliflower cheese, breaded mushrooms, vegetable burgers etc)

Terms & Conditions

Enter the Great fruit & veg challenge (the “Promotion”) exclusively via the Nectar app. Activate the Great fruit & veg Challenge tile to participate and you could collect additional Nectar points when buying fruit & veg at Sainsbury's.

Promotion applies to purchase of plain fruit & veg (fresh, frozen, tinned, and dried) at Sainsbury’s stores and online between 31 July – 17 September 2024 inclusive (the “Promotional Dates”).

Online orders must be delivered within the Promotional Dates. Delivery charges may apply.

Nectar card swipe required at each transaction. We’ll accumulate all your fruit & veg purchases during the Promotional Period and display your total in the app dashboard.

To collect additional Nectar points you must complete your fruit and veg tasks during the Promotional Dates by buying portions of fruit & veg. A portion is equal to 80g (30g for dried fruit, 40g for dried pulses and beans, 20g for concentrated puree) (each a “Portion”). Individual types of fruit and vegetable potions of 80g each are counted separately, and portions are not calculated cumulatively across a basket of products. Our Taste Me Don’t Waste Me boxes equate to 3 portions regardless of products included in the boxes. These boxes are subject to availability. Only available in a limited number of selected stores.

Your tasks are personal to you based on your purchasing history and will be clearly shown. Collect points when you complete Task One by buying the requisite number of portions of fruit and veg. Collect additional Nectar points when you complete Task Two and collect even more Nectar points when you complete the final Task.

The Promotion summary pod will remain available to view in the app until 20 September 2024 for you to review bonus points collected during the Promotion. This will only be available to customers who participated in the challenge and completed at least one task during the promotion period. You must  have the most up-to-date version of the Nectar App to view the Promotion summary pod.

Nectar points will be awarded within 28 days of the Promotion closing date.

Nectar points are subject to the Nectar Collector Rules which are available at Nectar.com.
